I live very near several sushi restaurants in the Worcester area, but I drive 30 minutes across town to get to this one over all the others because the sushi is the best. The fish is melt-in-your-mouth perfect. I have never had a bad dish here. I eat sushi everywhere I go, and you'd have to drive to Boston to find comparable food. Run, don't walk!
Maybe it was just the lunch service....
I was not impressed. Excited because I had heard nothing but good reviews, I went for lunch and sat at the sushi bar. They made my maki roll wrong and when I pointed this out, they just brought the missing ingredient and did not redo it. Working in the service business myself that definitely put me off.
As for the sushi itself truly it is nothing to write home about. The restaurant had no ambiance and was dim and boring. Only about a half a mile down the street is Haiku which has ambience, class, and an interactive sushi bar where you are engaged in conversation.
Prices were high, but that is sushi, but the taste did not justify the price. Osaka in White City has ten times better sushi and is at least a dollar or two less on almost every dish compared to Baba.
I suggest that if you do like this place, which is fine, make sure you take the time to at least try Haiku and Osaka - just for comparison.
I will not be returning.
Amazing Sushi!! Best Sushi outside Boston..
Honestly, I think it is the best sushi period. I have been to a few Boston places like osushi and ma soba (not all as there are many) and this tops them totally.
They are the only place that has "Crown Maki"- my favorite maki of all time now =). They have new maki and drink specials all the time that are AMAZING. They had a drink special called 'Midnight Pineapple' that hastily became a drink I make in my own home and my whole family and friends love. Their dessert- 'banana flambe' is so amazing that people go there just for that. Usually I am too full but it is one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. They also have the best beef tartaki I have ever tasted in my life- just go across the street to Haiku if you want to compare (Baba beats out Haiku in every way any day).
Only drawback is the size. They only opened a couple years ago and have been adding on but I suggest reservations even on a Monday night. They do takeout frequently though.
The waiters and waitresses are always extremely nice and pleasant. The wait for food is reasonable. It doesn't take very long even though the place is almost constantly packed (because it is so awesome).
If you like sushi...if you DONT like sushi...EVERYONE should try this place. It is truly a gem in the middle of worcester.
TO GET TO THE PARKING LOT (the bigger one) go through the bank right before (or right after depending on where you are coming from) and there is parking that runs up along the back and lots of it. You won't ever be lacking there.
TIny but Tasty. My fiancee and I went here shortly after going to a 'taste of Worcester' event. Baba is TINY - It looks small from the outside and man, it is! But the sushi is very good - I didn't even get an entree. A little pricey, but all sushi is. Could be a nice date place.
Best Sushi hands down. BABA is my favorite restaurant. The sushi is superb, the service is wonderful and the atmosphere is great! I'd eat there every night if I could. A great date restaurant.
