Tips for Daddy's Junky Music Stores

Laid back shop with guys who know their stuff. As a lifelong musician, I dig the vibe at Daddy's where, in contrast to the big corporate stores at the Mega Mall (no naming names but you know who!), you can come in, hang out, and test/play stuff with no pressure to buy it that day. Plus, no Death Metal blaring from the ceiling (so you can hear what youre playing). Dan and Billy know their stuff and can be very helpful if asked. They also know used gear values and give fair trade in values. Pretty good selection of stuff at all times (though it is a small store compared to MegaMall standards so they dont have everything) but if they dont have it they can pull it from another store and have it in a few days. I've had a great time spending money there (and got some great deals on cymbals, percussion gear, guitars, and other stuff). The place reminds me of music stores in late 70s and early 80s when musicians owned the store and didnt mind if you hung out to try something out. Most of those places are gone now, as it's so costly to run a store or the owners themselves have moved on (some to the great beyond), but Daddys remains one of the few music shops that still has that feel. Recommended for beginner or pro.

Great guitar shop; Daddy's Shrewsbury. I've recently re-focused on music after a 10 year hiatus, I was formerly a semi-gigging musician in the Northeast area. I started to prowl the states music stores looking to re-stock up on guitars ,amps etc as my job requires me to scour the state passing many music stores in the process. One stuck out among the others, daddy's in Shrewsbury MA on Rt.9. Its been years since I've made a major guitar purchase there, ( last was 10 years ago) but I now check in weekly looking for interesting guitars and amps, and purchase all my small items there, I will buy at least one guitar there in the future for sure for one reason: the staff. They are guitar enthusuasts, and never once made me feel like I was jerking them around or wasting thier time, a common mistake frequently made by the "big store" newly opened a few miles away that consistantly causes me to walk out with a pocket full of money that would have spent in there had someone bothered to actually help me. To date I've only purchased smaller items like strings and stuff, but as soon as a guitar catches my eye I surely will but from Daddy's in an effort to patronize the store. All guitar stores can sell you a guitar, a friendly, knowledgeable staff is the difference, they dont bolt for the back room as soon as they realize they are not going to make a big dollar purchase that day. For that reason, they will get my major purchase when I find that guitar that begs me to take it home. Thumbs up to the staff at Daddy's. They are even right around the corner from where I live!

Editorial Review. New England chain of music shops sells a wide array of new and used gear; classes and workshops also offered.
