Great haircut, questionable service – Got the deal on Groupon for color and cut and I assumed that's all I'd have to pay, but I was asked to pay another $25 because I had long and thick hair and used a lot of dye. This is understandable so I obliged (I need two boxes of dye to do my hair at home) but it was unexpected and I think it should have been more clear on their Groupon that they may charge extra for extra product. When I asked how much that would be, Jay sort of shrugged and said "About $20" before charging me $25, which confirms what others are saying about him sort of making up prices as he goes. Because I used the Groupon, though, I only paid around $75, which is decent for dye, cut, and product samples, so I wasn't all too upset. I don't know that I'd be comfortable getting all these services again at full price, though!
Also, the entire process took almost 3 hours because they were WAY overbooked. The woman who did my hair was working on 2 other people at any given time. She did her best, but I thought it was unfair to the customers and to the stylist to be put under such pressure. She was very polite and constantly thanking us for being so patient. I was more upset about this because there were many times where she was working on multiple customers and doing her best to split her time between them, but Jay was just sitting around and chatting. I frequently wondered why he wasn't lending her a hand and that made me feel really uncomfortable.
That all being said, I really love the way my hair turned out and the workers were all very nice! The woman doing my hair, Nina, was constantly telling me how beautiful my hair looked, offered to get me glasses of water, and offered to get me a magazine as I was waiting for the hair dye to set. They (Nina and Jay) helped me choose a dye that would work well for my skin tone and I love the cut I received. I think this is the happiest I've ever been with a hair cut. I went in wanting a darker color, but they helped me find a color that would compliment me more. My hair isn't as dark as I originally hoped for, but it's even better and I'm really glad I listened to their suggestions! I WOULD go back to Jay Christopher's Salon again, but I'd be aware of the potential costs beforehand and be prepared to spend a good chunk of the day there.
Wonderful experience! – I just had my hair colored and cut at Jay Christopher's
Salon. Jay the owner told me has been in business for over 20 years. He is truly an experienced and talented hair stylist. I thought the price was reasonable and the service first class. He is an artist.
The other stylist in the salon seemed highly skilled as well. I could tell by how great everyone looked after they were done. I received a color and cut. I spoke with a man who had just had his hair colored and had a sports facial. He was pleased as well. There were also several girls getting up do's for their prom. They were bubbly and happy when leaving. What a variety of clientele. I highly reccommend Jay Christopher's to any one.
Great haircuts, beautiful salon! – I loved the salon and totally disagree with the reviews written here They are riddled with typos so who knows how intelligent these people were????
I had a great experience. The salon is so airy and light and beautiful. I was greeted upon my arrival and had great magazines to read while I waited. Both myself and my children received wonderful attention and all our cuts and colors came out beautifully.
You get what you pay for.
As far as attitudes I only saw good ones. Maybe these people need to have aother cup of coffee before they head out into the world.
Totally recommend, totally recommend disregarding what is written before.
Horrible! – I totally agree with the other comments. The prices are outrageous and the owner is arrogate. There are no prices listed anywhere (is this legal???) and the owner just makes up some random price when you go to pay. I have to say however that the stylist that I used to go to there (not the owner) is excellant.. she really needs to find a new place to work because with ethics like that, that place will never last!
OWNER DECEIVING with PRICES – I paid $200 which I think is highly overpriced for cut and color, upon my first visit. At my second visit, I specifically requested for them to do the best job that they could for under this price because I like their service but $200 just seems to much to me. I've never spend this much at upper end hair salons anyway. So, at the end of my hair appt., my bill is $240.00 when I specifically requested that they do whatever they can for approx. $130.00. During my complaints to the owner, he claims that they didn't think that was what I really wanted (to have less product in my hair and it not look as good the previous time). I, did, however specifically ask for THAT. I've been deceived, I've been misled, and I'm disgusted with this unprofessionalism.
