HELL ON EARTH.
Unfortunately I had to choose 1 star to vote. The Irish Times in Worcester, MA doesn't even deserve that one star. My boyfriend and I were starving and wanted a good beer so we said "there's an Irish Bar, they've gotta have good food and good beer". Boy were we wrong!
When we arrived there were about 5 tables of customers. The first thing I noticed was trashy female bartenders all wearing "barely there" shorts stuck up thier butts and worn out stinky UGG boots. They all 4 looked dirty like they just rolled out of bed (or the back room, hungover from thier drinking binge with the trashy owners the night before). When we went to order our beer we noticed they were out of Guiness - what Irish Pub runs out of Guiness? We sat at the bar so we got to see up close how horrible the employees were to the customers. They were extrememly rude to a point where they deserved a slap accross the face. The restaraunt was seriously disgusting and in shambles. There was garbage on the floor, the floor was sticky and the counter at the bar was sticky. We watched one of the waitresses bring two plates of food out from some back room, set them on the bar counter, and left them there for at least 20 minutes, then she decided to bring them out to the customers. The burger had to be as cold as the ceaser salad it sat there with. Everyone around us commented on how tacky these girls were and how dirty this place was. I went to the restroom and walked right back out - yes it was that bad!!!! I overheard one of the bartenders telling a customer that the reason the place was in shambles was due to a "busy week" with St. Patricks day and 2 concerts. Well I'm sorry, that's no excuse! If you are an IRISH BAR you plan ahead for St. Patricks Day and close the doors until all of the grime is off of the floor and bar!!! When we left we overheard the owner being chewed a new one for how he ran his establishment. Another lady said she already told him off for how horrible his bar was....his excuse was that he ran a strip joint and didn't know how to run a bar/restaraunt....this explained it all. Avoid this hell hole at all costs!
UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. I used to come here all the time and then it just started a downward slide. I heard from a friend they sold it off to some other people that were trying to bring it back up the standards I remember. So i actually gave it another chance, went there on a low key night but they had some great music and a real solid beer selection. I'd encourage you to do the same!
This place isn't even worth driving by..
On the weekend, the exterior is strewn with pity less cops, and ogre-like employees.
The inside would be better if they didn't have so many tables everywhere. It's like American Gladiators trying to navigate to the bathroom.
Speaking of Gladiators, that's what employees act like, they'll jostle you as you enter without remorse. They look very trigger happy, so don't give them excuse to pile drive you because, from the looks of it, they won't hesitate, and I wouldn't look to the cops for any help.
Apparently Irish Times went through new ownership since the last time I said I'd never set foot in there again. So foolishly I gave them another chance, shame on me. It hasn't changed.
Same short fused dismal staff, and same sketchy dudes upstairs.
I wish I could have those few hours back!
15 dollar parking and rude staff. 15 dollars to park and you get searched on the way in. The staff was incredibly rude....need i say more?
RUDE People, Felt Violated at the Door.
This was the worst bar experience I have ever had in my life. I was traveling with a group of friends for a wedding in the area and we stopped by this bar after the party. My purse was searched throughly, and I understand it was for safety, but there was no discretion involved. I had medication stored in an inside zipper compartment of my purse and it was put on display for everyone to see. I am all for security but if they needed to search my prescriptions then do so in a manner where they are not put on display. I literally had to hold my hand up to attempt to block people from seeing the bottle that the bouncer had showed everyone and shown a flashlight on it. I tried to explain that to the bar owner and he was extremely rude and did not care. He yelled at me for being upset about the situation.
The bar tenders were even worse. One blatenly lied and told me the owner was not around. The other bar tender argued with my boyfriend about the price of a drink special. The price was hard to see and he mis-read the sign. As a result, the bar tender told one of our friends that she wanted him out of the bar.
In addition, yes, there is more, my boyfriend tried to buy his friend's father a drink and the bar tender did not allow him to do so because he was not done with the one in his hand. My boyfriend then asked to have a drink bought for his friend's father for when he was done with his current beer and they still did not let him do that.
In the end, we tried to even tip the bar tenders and they would not even take our money. At one point a bar tender asked to one of my other friends "where are you guys from anyway? as if we were the rude ones.
The night left me feeling violated and mistreated.
Well-kept local pub. This is the type of pub locals and visitors will agree fits the bill. They have a great menu of pub food (try the clam chowder in a bread bowl), the portions are generous, the staff is helpful, and they have nearly 20 micro and macrobrews on tap. They have several big-screen TVs for all the games, a pool table, darts and a comfy lounge seating area. Weekly events, and an easy jaunt from City Hall. Highly recommended.
Good all around. We needed a quick and easy lunch on a Saturday afternnon and found it here. We all had large well made sandwiches, not too adventurous but all well made. The atmosphere is lively and it must be a blast on weekend nights. The service was terrific and I will make it back in when I am in town again.
